UKWIN has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling for:
…a moratorium on PFI funding of schemes for managing residual waste which feature incineration as a major component…
The letter, from UKWIN’s National Coordinator Shlomo Dowen to Chancellor George Obsorne, points out that:
Waste management is an area where the risks of using PFI are particularly high and previous experience shows that its use has led to undue high costs and risks to the public purse.
The letter, dated 24th February 2012, is available to download from UKWIN_PFI_Moratorium_Letter_February_2012.pdf
UKWIN’s call for a moratorium on Waste PFI funding follows the campaign for the introduction of a tax on waste incineration.
