At the 2008 UK WIN AGM Linda Tift was accompanied by fellow PAIN campaigners Paul and Sue Cullen (and Shlomo). She recapped the story of MAIN’s success and support with the formation of PAIN. The proposed site is a former colliery earmarked for restoration to heathland and woodland. The site is ringed by Local Nature Reserves, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation, and is being considered for inclusion in a planned Sherwood Forest Regional Park. Veolia submitted their applications just before Christmas 2007. They were poorly written (by RPS) – full of inaccuracies. PAIN sent first 60-page wave of planning objections to Nottinghamshire County Council (Wrong Site, Wrong Technology document is available from http://www.p-a-in.co.uk/planningobj.htm Other objections to this proposed electricity-only facility have come from Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, David Bellamy and from members of the Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood TV series) fanclub. Linda notes that some PAIN members are working hard to oppose an incinerator, alongside others who oppose the whole idea of incineration.
