South West Wiltshire, South West
“I want a moratorium on all new incinerator construction, including the one planned for Westbury. We should be reducing, reusing and recycling waste, not consigning it to the great landfill in the sky.”

North West Norfolk, East of England
“I opposed the proposed new Wisbech incinerator in Parliament and welcome the Conservative Party manifesto commitment to prevent new waste incinerators being built, including those with recent permit approvals, such as Wisbech. We have enough capacity already and don’t need more given our legally binding recycling targets.”

Green Party

Candidate Photo
Waveney Valley, East of England
“I have a long history of campaigning against incinerators and for waste reduction and recycling. I actively opposed the one that was planned and successfully defeated in West Norfolk. I am supporting residents who are concerned about the proposed incinerator near Beccles, Suffolk, where the Green-led council has put conditions in place which set a high bar for the incinerator to get an environmental permit to operate (it had been given permission under the previous Conservative administration).”

Brighton Pavilion, South East
“From championing a new right to repair to ending built in obsolescence, if elected I will advocate for a circular economy that reduces the waste of resources. No more incineration is key to that approach and I back the UKWIN pledge.”

Labour Party

Washington and Gateshead South, North East
“It is imperative that we stop the creation of incineration plants and prioritise clean, green recycling solutions that are better for our communities and our environment. In 2019 Washington fought and won our own battle against an incineration plant that was proposed in my constituency, and I can’t thank UKWIN enough for the support and expertise they gave my campaign. I could not have done it without them.”

“It is absolutely vital we maximise waste reduction, reuse and recycling and I fully support this pledge.”

Archive: May 2024 English Local Election Pledges

Nearly 200 local councillors pledged to support 65%+ recycling alongside residual waste reduction targets by opposing all new incineration capacity and opposing long-term council waste contracts that are incompatible with these targets.
