Notes: Planning permission 2016/1456/EIA for a conventional RDF and mixed waste incinerator techinically commenced in June 2020 to preserve the planning permission, but in In October 2025 planning permission was varied (ZG2025/0107/S73) to help make way for construction to actually commence. Permit application EPR/AP3526LV/A002, was submitted with documents dated August 2025, and a consultation ran between January 2026 and March 2026 [See consultation page], and the EA stated on 11 May 2026 that it was "currently in the application review stage". Planning history: The scheme is modified from the original application made in December 2016 for RDF gasification plant (ref 2016/1456/EIA) using a feedstock "sourced from recycling centres from outside of the Sherburn Industrial Estate" which was granted in October 2016. Some planning conditions were discharged by Selby District Council in 2020 (2020/0276/DOC) and a Section 73 application to vary conditions was approved in 2021 to increase the capacity to from 200ktpa to 240ktpa and changed the technology from "gasification" to "grate" technology (2021/1402/S73). Capacity is usually the permitted or maximum advertised capacity of the facility.
