Notes: Biffa’s planning application for a 300,000 tonne incinerator (proposed 180,000 municipal, 120,000 East Midlands Commercial & Industrial (C&I)) was granted planning permission on appeal on the 28th of June 2012 [Source, Source]. Permission for increased capacity of 350ktpa approved in October 2014 (ref 2014/1440/02) [Source]. In June 2017 it was reported that Covanta had been brought on as a partner [Source]. In July 2018 it was reported that Biffa applied for a variation to the Environmental Permit to match the 350,000tpa capacity for which it secured planning permission [Source]. A permit variation was applied for in July 2018 to reflect the changes to the proposal and this was approved in May 2019 [EPR/TP3036KB/V004]. In February 2020 it was reported that Biffa had reached financial close in conjunction with Covanta and Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG) [Source]. Permit variation to change operator from Covanta to Encyclis issued is in July 2023. In August 2023 it was reported that the facility entered full operational status when it was handed over in early June 2023. Permit variation to increase capacity to 455ktpa was approved in 2024 (EPR/RP3004MA/V005). In July 2025 it was reported that Encyclis had bought out Biffa's shares [Source].
