Defra are not publishing the first quarter 2011/12 (April 2011 – June 2011) waste data until the start of February 2012, but the Environment Agency has produced a landfill allowance (LATS) estimate for each council based on Q1 data.
http://www.wastedataflow.org/Documents/LATS/Qrt_1_2011-12-BMW_Forecast.pdf
The document points to 6.68M tonnes of biodegradable waste content being landfilled against 10.89M of allowances due to large carry over from last year (the allowance would have been 9.3m tonnes without carry over).
This data shows that England is running about 3.5 years ahead of the LATS target based on first quarter estimates.
The Government announced in the 2011 Waste Review that they will be “ending the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS) at the end of the 2012/13 scheme year”.
