Festive Fun Part 1

Anti-incineration campaigners in Gloucestershire have compiled a series of Christmas songs.

In the run-up to Christmas UKWIN will be publishing a song or two per week, starting with “Black Christmas” and “Fiery Christmas Everywhere”.

You can download all seven songs from the GlosVAIN website.

GlosVAIN and GlosAIN campaigners used localised versions of these songs last year at a successful event.

Diana suggests that if any groups are doing the same this year that they wear their favourite Santa hats, antlers or elf suits:

…not only is this fun but it makes a good picture for the media!

Black Christmas
words by David Purchase
(sing to the tune for “White Christmas”)

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones we used to know
Before the tree tops were blackened and meadows flattened
By a waste plant melting all the snow

Chorus
I’m dreaming of a fresh air Christmas
With every gasp of breath I take.
Hear us Coun-cil, do not de-lay
Ban incin-e-ration to day

I’m dreaming of recycling rubbish
Reusing everything I can
I’ll fill my green/ brown boxins instead of breathing toxins
Burning waste we surely need to ban

Chorus
I’m dreaming of a fresh air Christmas
With every gasp of breath I take.
Hear us Coun-cil, do not de-lay
Ban incin-e-ration to day

Fiery Christmas Everywhere
words by David Purchase
(sing to the tune for “Merry Christmas Everyone”)

There’s a fall out all around us
Contamination everywhere
See the tall stack puffing out dioxins
Elected Leaders do you care?

Lorries driving from distant places
Dumping rubbish on us all
Then the Council, lacking in its wisdom stops recycling
Burns it all

Chorus
They’re gonna have a fire tonight
We’re gonna get choked underneath that 10 storey stack
With pollutants burning bright

Asthma rising, children wheezing
Everybody’s not so well
Still the Council will keep on burning rubbish
And Incineration’s a living hell

*Instrumental Break*

Repeat Chorus
They’re gonna have a fire tonight….

Big white elephant 5 years later
Sitting waiting for waste to burn
And our taxes all are being squandered
When will the Council ever learn?
When will the Council ever learn?
When will the Council ever learn?

Repeat 1st verse ( x 2)

Elected Leaders do you care? Elected Leaders do you care?
