Notes: Original planning application for fluidised bed biomass-only plant approved in October 2009 (09/1562/EIS). Application to vary to being a moving grate (conventional incineration) RDF plant approved in November 2016 (16/2165/VARY). Permit application for RDF plant made in November 2017 and granted in September 2018 [EPR/NP3537YY/A001]. In November 2022 the operator "elected to defer permit review" and in October 2023 a permit variation was issued to requiring a report to be submitted showing compliance with the updated BAT Conclusions before the incinerator can be operated. Not to be confused with the two nearby Haverton Hill incinerators operated by Suez/Sita. (Entry updated 2023-10-24)

A Prevented Incinerator is something which used to be a proposal or expected incinerator which we do not believe is currently being progressed (e.g. because the project was cancelled, planning permission refused, or years have gone by since the permission was granted without any progress) - in some cases a facility marked as prevented is being progressed without us being aware or is subsequently revived. Capacity is usually the permitted or maximum advertised capacity of the facility.
