Notes: Planning application submitted in July 2022 (22/1525/EIS) following a Scoping Request from February 2022 (22/0525/SOR). The July 2022 proposal is for an incinerator to treat refuse derived fuel (RDF). The same site was previously granted planning permission for an incinerator in 2013 (12/2766/EIS), according to the non-technical summary for the July 2022 application, while this historic consent was technically implemented in order to maintain the planning permission it "has not been constructed at the site". In April 2024 the Planning Committee voted to approve the application and permission was approved in August 2024 (22/1525/EIS). In May 2024 the Environment Agency did not include this facility in their list of plants that had a permit or outstanding permit application. In March 2025 a non-material amendmet, indicating that the project remains in active development (22/1525/NMA). Teesside Green Energy Park Ltd entered insolvency on 23rd December 2025 in association with the broader insolvency of Solar 21 which calls its future into doubt [Source] (Entry updated 2026-02-25)

Standard notice:

UKWIN (and therefore the UKWIN map) focuses on Municipal Waste Incinerators, whereas our colleagues at Biofuelwatch focus on biomass projects. If you are interested in biomass incinerators (including waste wood plants) over 20MW then please see the Biofuelwatch map of UK Biomass Power Stations. Those concerned about biomass plants, including waste wood plants, should email Biofuelwatch at biofuelwatch[at]gmail.com.

Please be aware: There is always room for improvement, so please send updates to coordinator@ukwin.org.uk. Existing Incinerator means a facility that is operational or under construction/commissioning. A Potential Incinerator is a facility where there is a proposal for an incinerator (e.g. planning application or planning consent) or other reason to believe an incinerator might be built/proposed in the future. A Prevented Incinerator is something which used to be a proposal or expected incinerator which we do not believe is currently being progressed (e.g. because the project was cancelled, planning permission refused, or years have gone by since the permission was granted without any progress) - in some cases a facility marked as prevented is being progressed without us being aware or is subsequently revived. Capacity is usually the permitted or maximum advertised capacity of the facility.
