Notes: Construction began in July 2015 and it was reported in July 2018 that the site was in commissioning and that the facility was expected to be operational in August 2018 [Source, Source]. In July 2019 there was a fire at the incinerator's waste storage unit [Source]. Granted planning permission in August 2013 [Source]. A long-term municipal waste management contract was signed between Viridor and the South London Waste Partnership in November 2012 [Source]. Croydon Council led the procurement process for the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP), which also includes the boroughs of Sutton, Merton and Kingston. On the 20th of October 2010 the Government withdraw PFI funding for the project [Source]. A permit variation to increase the permitted capacity from 302,500tpa to 347,422tpa was issued by the Environment Agenncy in December 2020 (EPR/TP3836CT/V004). In November 2022 Viridor applied for a variation to increase capacity from 347,422 tpa to 382,286 tpa, and this was granted in June 2026.
