Notes: In September 2022 it was reported that the facility had entered construction and was expected to be operational "in early 2026" [Source]. No recent updates on construction progress on operator website as of mid-March 2024 [Source]. In February 2023 FCC wrote to North Lanarkshire Council to re-discharge planning conditions. The contaminated land aspects of the site investigation were subject to peer review in January 2024, with various concerns raised. As such, it is possible that delays in discharging permit conditions might be delaying the construction. Intended to treat waste from households and businesses. Planning permission was issued in August 2020 [ref 19/01284/FUL]. A permit application was submitted in October 2019 [See SEPA entry]. A permit was issued in June 2021 (PPC/A/1187576). In November 2024 it was reported that this project "is yet to move to full construction, despite FCC previously targeting having the Scotland-based EfW being operational in 2026" [Source]. As of 9th December 2025 the last update on construction status on the FCC website is the 2022 announcement that initial construction works had started at the site, meaning the construction status remains unclear [Source]. A Potential Incinerator is a facility where there is a proposal for an incinerator (e.g. planning application or planning consent) or other reason to believe an incinerator might be built/proposed in the future. A Prevented Incinerator is something which used to be a proposal or expected incinerator which we do not believe is currently being progressed (e.g. because the project was cancelled, planning permission refused, or years have gone by since the permission was granted without any progress) - in some cases a facility marked as prevented is being progressed without us being aware or is subsequently revived. Capacity is usually the permitted or maximum advertised capacity of the facility.
