Notes: Planning application for "Establishment of an Energy from Waste facility comprising of a Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) fed Gasification Plant with a 20m high flue stack and associated synthetic gas fuelled Combined Heat & Power (CHP) generation engines..." submitted in November 2023 to Cumbria County Council (1/23/9005). The latest application amends the stack height to 23m. Planning Statement refers to "ETGAS Gasifier Units". Briefing Note from the Applicant states: "Due to the nature of the operations, the processes will require to be regulated either by the Local Authority as a Schedule 13A Small Waste Incineration (SWIP) Process or the Environment Agency (EA) as a Bespoke Waste Installation under Part A(1) Section 1.2(g) Combustion Activity of the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR regulations) dependent on scale". Section 1.2(g) relates to "Activities involving the liquefaction or gasification of other carbonaceous material". Planning application 1/23/9005 was refused by Cumberland Council in June 2025, with the applicant having lodging an appeal in December 2025. Campaigners are receiving support from a barrister to participate in the inquiry [Source, Source].
