UKWIN has published a guide to site-specific non-waste planning arguments. This document is the first document in the UKWIN Campaign Guide series, available from http://ukwin.org.uk/resources/#guide.
Whilst UKWIN typically focuses on the broader waste arguments against incineration, it is often the site-specific non-waste arguments that succeed in preventing individual planning applications from being granted planning permission.
These non-waste arguments relate to the impacts of a proposal on the area in which it would be located, and how a proposal therefore goes against local/regional/national planning policy.
The guide covers the following topics:
- PPS10 Annex E Location al Criteria
- Protection of water resources and risk of flooding
- Land instability and subsidence
- Visual intrusion and related amenity arguments
- Nature conservation and wildlife protection
- Historic environment and built heritage
- Traffic, access and air quality
- Potential land use conflict and other designations
- Prematurity
