The Coalition for Recycling and Against Coventry Incinerator (CRACIN) have produced a video in response to Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Councils’ joint submission of an Outline Business Case (OBC) to DEFRA. Their proposal are to build a 305,000 tonne per annum incinerator in Coventry using PFI credits.

The former Director of waste management firm Biffa, Peter Jones OBE, has accepted an invitation from UKWIN to speak at our AGM in March 2009. Peter, a strong critic of Waste PFI contracts involving incineration, was recently appointed to sit on London Waste and Recycling Board by London Mayor Borris Johnson. Coventry City Council has opened its consultation into the draft municipal waste strategy. Coventry plans to achieving a 50% recycling rate by 2020. One of the main focuses of the draft document is on reducing the amount of waste going to the city’s ageing incinerator, which is owned and managed by local firm Coventry and Solihull Waste and Disposal Company and currently deals with 64% of Coventry’s 180,000 tonnes of annual household waste.
