According to Viridor’s Regional Communications Manager, Tessa Taylor:

Viridor has now formally appealed the decision by Bristol City Council to refuse planning permission for its resource recovery development at Severn Road, Avonmouth.

Viridor’s failed proposals include a 350,000 tonne per annum incinerator that was refused planning permission by Bristol City Council, who rejected Viridor’s planning application in June 2010.

The public inquiry into the appeal is scheduled to start on 30 November 2010. A final decision on the application is expected by summer 2011.

Incinerator for Bristol sinks as Labour loses control

In an article published on the Bristol Evening Post website, entitled Lib Dems take over Bristol City Council, it was reported that:

The Liberal Democrats have taken control of Bristol City Council after Labour sensationally quit at a crucial budget meeting. The issue that brought the ruling party down on Tuesday night was the possibility of an incinerator being built to burn household waste.

Efforts to educate Bristol Councillors are begining to pay off as increasing numbers vote to exclude incineration from waste plans.

On Tuesday (9th September 2008) Bristol City Councillors passed a recommendation to Cabinet, that reads:

Council notes that the majority of Council Members are opposed to a ‘feed-the-beast’ mass-burn incinerator
