According to Materials Recycling Week and their sister publication Construction News, Ascot Environmental have stated that they are to file for administration.

Ascot Environmental are heavily involved in designing, constructing and funding various gasification projects. This includes the incinerator at Dargavel Stores, Lockerbie Road, Dumfries which is operated by Scotgen and was named by SEPA as “one of the 20 worst polluters in Scotland” (Source).

According to a September 2010 Site Status Report for the Dargavel incinerator by SEPA: “Since commisioning re-started in March 2010… there have been 17 recorded noise complaints, 15 activations of the by-pass stack, 2 failures of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System and 172 short term ELV (Emissions Limit Values) breaches” (Source).

We’ll have to wait and see how this will impact upon ScotGen and existing and future gasification facilities, but it could certainly lend strength to the argument that gasification is not a winning technology.
