More money burnt in Eastcroft Incinerator

The Nottingham Evening Post reports that the costs of capital expenditure to repair the infamously dodgy Eastcroft incinerator – to be paid by Nottingham City Council just for one year (2009-10) – have increased by £1.5 million. This is based on a report to Nottingham’s Executive Board.

A more detailed report was on the Executive Board agenda of 20 May 2008.

The total costs for renewing the incinerator’s grates and boilers now amount to more than £20 million. This expense is to be shared between Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County over three years (2007-10).

The debt charges work out at around £30 per tonne of waste, which means that the quoted gate fee for waste of around £30 per tonne needs to be doubled.

In addition, the contract with waste company WRG requires the City to pay £1 million a year to subsidise the operation of Enviroenergy, which works out at an additional £10 per tonne of waste.
