We are very pleased to announce that UKWIN’s application for membership of GAIA has been approved.
GAIA is an expanding international alliance of individuals, non-governmental organization, community-based organizations, academics and others working to end the incineration of all forms of waste and to promote sustainable waste prevention and discard management practices. Since GAIA members are committed both to ending incineration and to promoting alternative safe, economical and just discard management systems, the name GAIA represents both a Global Anti-Incinerator Alliance and a Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives. In a message sent to UKWIN, GAIA’s Anne Larracas said:
We are very honoured to welcome UKWIN into the alliance. Your membership will surely help GAIA achieve a “just, toxic free world without incineration”…We’re very glad to have another member from the United Kingdom. Our UK colleagues such as Ralph Ryder, Alan Watson, Jeni Mackay and many more are some of the most active members of GAIA and contribute tremendously to anti-incineration work around the world.
UKWIN looks forward to collaborating with fellow UK activists and organisations (e.g. Communities Against Toxics (CATs) Scotland) and with Global Alliance members from around the world.
